PSSA

Pennsylvania System of Assessment (PSSA) is the state regulated testing program which is administered to our students each Fall and Spring. The assessments focus on Reading, Writing, and Math Skills, emphasizing the Academic Standards contained in the PA. State Regulations, Chapter 4. Each student's scores are compared to an overall score and statewide percentile in each assessed area. The Reading and Math scores are identified by specific academic standards, while the Writing scores are based on an analysis of three writing prompts evaluated according to the five domains of effective writing.

The State Department of Education states in Chapter 4: "Students who do not achieve a level of proficiency (Proficient Performance or Advanced Performance Level) may participate in a re-test. A school district shall include a plan for additional instructional opportunities for students not achieving at the Proficient Level." Emmaus High School offers a Remediation Program in October of each year to provide an opportunity for these students to study before re-testing. A student may opt to take the re-test without participating in the Remediation Program. However, parents and students are advised that the PSSA scores are a part of a student's educational transcript, and are forwarded, along with his or her grades.
