Mission Statement
Mastery of the English language is the most significant skill that one must have to succeed in the world. The English Department strives to make students better readers, writers, analyzers, speakers, and actors. It offers a core curriculum for all four grade levels in the high school, as well as many elective classes. All core courses include literature, grammar, vocabulary, writing, and speaking.

Summer English Reading Lists
The Emmaus High School English Department has released the 2013 summer reading list. I strongly encourage each of you to preview the list with your child in order to select a book that is interesting and appropriate. The following statement appears at the top of each reading list: “In the English Department's attempt to provide rich and varied reading experiences for our students, we have selected titles for the summer reading lists written mostly by contemporary authors. Some selections are focused toward mature readers. We encourage parents to assist their children in selecting interesting, appropriate titles for their summer reading. Barnes and Noble’s website provides information including Lexile level, book reviews, and age levels for specific titles. If no age level is specified in the “Product Details” section on the Barnes and Noble site, the book may be focused toward mature readers for various reasons including mature themes or mature content. Barnes and Noble is suggested as a resource only, not an endorsement of any specific bookseller.
