Willow Lane Elementary School Library

The Willow Lane Elementary School Library houses a collection of approximately 21,000 books, periodicals, CD's, DVD's and a variety of equipment for use by students and staff.

The library is open Monday through Friday from 8:40 AM -3:30 PM. It is staffed with many volunteers, library aides, and a librarian, who shares time between Willow Lane and Alburtis Elementary Schools. Throughout the year we hold  special programs and fun activities in the library.  We also host  fall and spring book fairs.

       SOME HELPFUL FACTS:

  • Library classes are held weekly for all students.
  • Classes are 30 minutes long and include instruction and book selection.
  • Depending on grade level and class assignments students may select from one to three books and/or periodicals. More selections are possible for class assignments.
  • Library materials are due on regularly assigned library days. In case of illness, snow days, or other scheduled activities, books should be returned ASAP: it's not necessary to wait for the next scheduled library day.
  • Students may visit the library any time during the school day, not just during assigned library times.
  • Overdue notices are printed weekly and sent home with students.

THE COLLECTION:
The library collection is divided into several areas: fiction, non-fiction, reference, biography and periodicals. Fiction books are separated into (E) picture books, suitable for grades K-5, and chapture (FIC) books, suitable for grades 2-5. Non-fiction books are shelved together regardless of reading level.

THE STAFF
The Willow Lane Library is fortunate to have a large group of parent volunteers who donate their time to working in the library on alternating weeks. The PTO supplies a volunteer coordinator to help schedule volunteer activities related to the library.

The library has three part time aides who help with all aspects of library functioning.

The librarian teaches classes 4 days a week at Willow Lane and 1 day per week at Alburtis Elementary. Administrative time is divided between the two library collections.

Book Fairs are held during fall and spring conference weeks. PTO book fair chairpeople work with the librarian to coordinate fair activities.  Children and staff participate in a weeklong preview with fun activities centered on a theme which changes from fair to fair. Proceeds from the book fair directly support the library.
