My name is Ms. Christine Gogel and I have been teaching at Shoemaker for fourteen years.  I started my journey in teaching right here at Shoemaker School in third grade!  I have experience in teaching fourth and fifth grades as well, and know how to prepare students for those important years at the elementary level.  I plan to implement strategies in third grade for organization, time management, and study skills to help my students achieve their best.  Modeling, role playing, and visuals will be part of my daily routine during instruction and guided learning.  I want my students to feel comfortable in their third grade environment and learning, which is why many differentiated strategies will be used throughout the school year in all subject areas.

I began my college career at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  At St. Joe’s, I enrolled as an education major, but then switched to business as I had the opportunity to take many new and different marketing classes.  I continued working throughout my four years at St. Joseph’s as a Food Marketing major, and graduated in May of 1998.  Shortly thereafter, I was hired by Rita’s Water Ice Corporate Office in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, as a Training and Operations Specialist.  During my summer vacations from St. Joe’s, I had worked at a number of Rita’s Water Ices in the area, so this job seemed to really fit my previous work experiences.  I traveled to different stores in the Philadelphia and outlying areas, working with managers and owners to make sure they were giving the best product to their customers.  I also had the opportunity to travel to a small Catholic school in the area participating in a Junior Achievement Program. Throughout this program, I worked in a fourth grade classroom teaching them about Economics, money, and products.  I loved it and I loved working with the students!

After about nine months of working for Rita’s, I changed my career path and decided to move back home to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher.  I enrolled at Kutztown University in the fall of 1999 and graduated in the spring of 2001.  My second student teaching experience was at Shoemaker Elementary in fifth grade, and I was hired the following school year with a permanent position.  I know this is what I was meant to do!  I cannot picture myself working anywhere else, or doing anything else.  Teaching children inspires me and I hope to be an inspiration to all of my students!  I pursued a Masters degree in Education from Kutztown and completed that in the spring of 2005.  I am currently enrolled in a Masters/Doctorate Program at Drexel University in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum.  I have hopes of teaching at the college level someday in education.

I am thrilled to be your teacher this year!  As you get to know me, you will find that I am enthusiastic, humorous, fair, loves all kinds of fashion, and am just so excited to be spending this time with you!  I love learning from my students, too!  I hope you’ve enjoyed learning about me!
