MATH The math program provides direct instruction, practice, remediation, enrichment, and acceleration. We do not track the students, although we do have flexible grouping. We group students based on need and we believe that not all students must learn all skills in the unit at the same time or pace. We differentiate instruction in order for the students to be sufficiently challenged. We review, practice, and teach number facts because it is important for students to memorize the basics. However, problem solving is also stressed in each chapter. We are using the Harcourt math series this year, and the curriculum consists of: · Addition and subtraction – one, two and three digits · Place value and money · Graphs · Multiplication · Time and measurement · Division · Geometry – plane and solid shapes · Fraction concepts
