Where the target is to get in the zone and:

Hello! This is Mrs. Shingler
Welcome to my website!
Click on "Calendar" tab on top of this page to check for what we did in classes today and assignments, homework, etc.
Background Information: I grew up in East Penn School District and graduated from Emmaus High School. I have a B.A. in Music (voice and music history major) and a B.S. in Elementary Education from Kutztown University (magna cum laude). I studied Mozart through Westchester University at the University of Salzburg, Austria, in the summer of 1983. I sing soprano, play the flute, recorder, and a bit of piano. After graduation, I taught kindergarten, and remedial reading and math for 2nd and 3rd grades. I have also taught at the college level - Intro. to Composition, Instructional English, and some Early Education courses. I have a Master's in Secondary Education in English from Kutztown University in 2004. A special love and focus in graduate school was adolescent fantasy literature. There are amazing books out there to stimulate the imaginations of young people. I taught 7th grade Communications Applications at LMMS and for the past five years have been teaching 8th grade language arts.
My Duties Include: In addition to teaching five sections of 8th gr. Language Arts, I also advise the Builders Club. I have put a link on the left for Builders Club, so feel free to check that out. Builders Club is the middle school version of the high school's Key Club, both of which are affiliated with the Kiwanis Club, a nationwide adult volunteer community service organization. Our local chapter, Emmaus Kiwanis, is working with us to educate the youth about the importance of community service to build character and a better community. Check out the link with Builder's Club pictures. I have loaded a few, and more to come!
Mrs. Shingler's Language Arts Classes are where it's at in eighth grade! We read, analyze, question, and explore literature and do lots of writing. Here are some highlights:
Where: LMMS Room 607
When: 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th Periods
What: To build our reading, writing, and vocabulary skills to explore and understand the world
around us!
Why: To expand our knowledge base as well as our imaginations to grow and learn
How: By reading and interpreting literature, poetry, and non-fiction writing
By expanding our vocabulary by learning cool new words ( there are 600,000 words in the
English language and the average person uses approximately 50,000 - 60,000!)
By improving our writing skills, thereby improving our ability to communicate and make
ourselves understood!
By practicing proper research techniques and use MLA essay and citation formats
By creating projects and collaborating in groups to expand and explore all that life has to
offer!
