Behavior Clip Chart

Dear Parents and Guardians,

In our classroom we use a color coded behavior “Clip Chart” to help us encourage and inspire positive choices and responsible behavior.  Your child will have a clothespin labeled with his or her name that will begin on Ready to Learn each day.  Depending on the choices your child makes, the clip can move up or down or rest comfortably on Ready to Learn.  In order for your child’s clip to move up, he or she must demonstrate behavior/make choices that go above and beyond the classroom expectations.  Each time your child reaches the top of our clip chart, they will earn a special gemstone to glue onto their clip and a prize.  If your child’s clip moves down he or she has an opportunity to correct the behavior and move back up.  This is an important part of the clip chart because it encourages children to accept the responsibility of their actions and shows them that they have control over their behavior choices.

We will be modeling and practicing positive choices throughout the year and will focus on being fair, firm and consistent.  Your child’s behavior will be communicated to you each night through their M.O.N.K.E.Y Folder.  Your child will color their monkey the color that they earned for the day with me and I will initial it.  You can refer to the behavior key below to see what your child has earned for the day.  If a negative behavior pattern continues we will work together to find a solution that best works for your child.  My goal is to keep you as informed and involved as possible so we can empower students to be responsible for their choices and keep the classroom running effectively.

Purple

Outstanding! I went above and beyond expectations.

Dark Blue

Great day!  I followed all expectations consistently today and put in an extra effort.

Light Blue

I didn’t monkey around at all today.  Good Job!

Green

I stayed focused and Ready to Learn all day.

Yellow

I received a warning and need to Think About It.

Orange

Uh-oh.  I made another bad choice.  This leads to a Teacher’s Choice consequence.

Red

I’ve Gone Bananas!  I have not made good choices and a parent or the principal will be contacted.

Please be sure to check your child’s behavior monkey and initial it every night.  Showing your little one that behavior choices are important to you reinforces our efforts in school. Thank you so much for your support.  Please contact me with any questions or comments.

Marble Jar

There will be a Marble Jar located near my desk.  Marbles are awarded for good group behavior.  Once the jar is full we will have a class reward!  Let's do our best to fill this jar as often as possible!

Tickets

I will also be offering tickets when I see students doing something good in first grade.  This can range from doing something helpful for a friend or following directions.  I am always on the look out for someone to give a ticket to!  When a student earns enough tickets, they are eligible for a prize from our prize container.  Students are responsible for keeping their tickets in a safe place.  Rack up those tickets, there are some great prizes in there!  Wink
