
Course Description:
The primary focus of this course is the development of civilizations in four major geographic areas: Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe from 476 to 1500 C.E. The course will then trace the evolution of the modern European nation-state and examine the impact of European empires on the world community.
Several examples of topics covered in this course include: world religion, the Fall of Rome, the Byzantine Empire, the Bantu Migration, African Trade Kingdoms, Dynastic China, Feudal Japan, the Mughal Empire, Medieval Europe, the Renaissance and Reformation, the Age of Exploration, and the Civilizations of the Americas. We will also explore the geography, culture, and current developments in Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe.
