Pod 6 Language Arts

Be a STAR Student!

*There is a new essay contest open to all interested 8th graders! The Emmaus Flag Day Association sponsors an essay contest each year. The topic of the essay should be "What does the American flag mean to me?"

Packets outlining the requirements for the contest are available in Miss Champlin's room.

The deadline for all entries is May 16th, 2012. The deadline is firm as Miss Champlin needs to choose the top 5 essays to submit to the flag day association, and the association will be picking up the essays on the morning of the 18th.

Students who submit essays will earn 10 bonus points in Miss champlin's class, 5 bonus points in Mr. Boyle's class, and 5 bonus points in Mrs. Rauch's class. (*To obtain the bonus points, students must submit essays that convey a respectful tone and that meet the criteria listed in the packet.)

*The students with the top 5 essays to be submitted to the flag day association will receive 15 bonus points in language arts instead of 10.

The key to Being a STAR Student in this class is to work diligently, try your best, and finish well, no matter what!!! The only way to learn your true potential is to give 100%!

This year, we will read not only for enjoyment, but to acquire the skills necessary to be successful for the rest of your life.

Language Arts class will help you learn to effectively communicate with one another. We will read to interpret communications from others (we call them authors), we will practice the art of communicating orally, and we will learn to write to communicate effectivey. Simply learning these tools will help you succeed in the "real world" - mastering them will enable you to live up to your full potential, reach for your dreams, and attain them.

Take up the challenge... choose to be successful, and you will have a great 8th grade year!

No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading, or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance.
