Friday, 5/11/18 - We have spent the better part of the past two weeks working on the book presentations in class (with computers).  Presentations start on Monday.  
Book Fair is also next week; we'll be stopping in on Monday or Tuesday so bring money if you can.
We'll also be doing another STAR test next week.

Monday, 4/30/18 -Book presentations for the book you read during April will be due starting on Monday, 5/14 with an absolute final due date of Friday, 5/18.  Anyone that has his/her project done by 5/14 can start presenting that day.  The sooner we get these done the better.
You are being given the next two weeks in class to work on the computers so that you can ask questions of each other or me as you go.  Please work on these outside of class as well.
If you have any questions regarding this project please refer to the packet you were given that contains the requirements, the checklist, and the rubric.  You may also ask me during class or come and see me at 9th period.

Monday, 3/5/18 - Quizzes were returned on Friday, 3/2 and we went over them in class.  Grades are online.  
February book reports were due on Friday, 3/2; if yours was not yet received there will be a zero in the gradebook until it is turned in.
New books were chosen for March book reports on Thursday, 3/1.  If you do not have a book yet for March, or if you decide to change the book you originally got, please do so asap.  "Sloppy copy" for notetaking was provided on Friday, 3/2.

Tuesday, 2/20/18 - All students received a packet for the stories we just finished.  Homework for tonight, if they did not finish in class, is to finish the first two pages of vocab (Exercises A & B).
We will be taking an open book quiz on the stories on Friday, after doing the packet work this week.  If any student wants to review the story before Friday he or she may borrow a book to take home or come in at 9th period to read and ask questions.

Thursday, 2/8/18 - All students who turned in January book reports have received them back (unless they were absent).  Grades and comments are on HAC.  Any student who would like to improve his/her grade may follow the guidelines we went over in class to resubmit the report for a chance at improving the grade.  The deadline for these is Wednesday,2/14/18.

All students should be reading for and working on their February book reports which are due no later than Friday, 3/2/18.
The only other thing students should be working on for me outside of class is their Study Island assignments.  All students should make sure that they are achieving 70% or above on every assignment (please start with Citing Text Evidence).  If you are having trouble with any assignment please remember to review the lesson for it and/or come and see me during 9th period for additional help.
In class we will be continuing to read the stories from the Literature book; 6th grade is reading "Dragon, Dragon", and 7th grade is reading "The Third Wish".  Once we are finished with the stories we will be taking a quiz on them.
Monday, 12/11 - 6th grade classes took quizzes on "The Tail" last week.  Quizzes have been graded and returned to students; they were told to take them home and show their parents.  Grades are recorded on HAC.  We will be working on writing the TDA/essay starting tomorrow.

7th grade classes are continuing to read "A Christmas Carol" with me in class.  We will be doing a TDA at the end as the assessment.

All students should be reading every night on their own.
December book reports are due NLT Wednesday, 1/3/2018! (but if you can get them in on or before 12/21/2017 you have the winter break off to read whatever you like!)


Thursday, 8/30/17 -  ALL LAP Students:  FlipGrid is set up and ready to go for your Summer Reading Projects.  I will give you a handout sheet tomorrow that will help you logon, but if you want to try it out and play with it (you can redo the video if you're not happy with the way it comes out) here is the link to follow:

 Biography

This will be my twenty-fifth year as a teacher in East Penn, and my thirteenth year as a teacher here at Eyer Middle School.  I am a veteran of the United States Air Force, and have also been a commercial loan officer in the banking industry.  I earned my B.S. (in Business Administration with a minor in History), my initial teaching certification, and my M.Ed. from Kutztown University.  I have earned many credits beyond my Master’s Degree (hence my belief in students being lifelong learners!).   In addition to being a teacher I am a certified personal trainer and am also involved in acting; I directed the Spring Musical here at Eyer for 13 years and have performed on the stage, television, radio, and even a movie.  My wife is a nurse practitioner in the field of ophthalmology.  We have two grown children; our son is a graduate of Emmaus HS now working in the plumbing industry in Florida and our daughter is an alumna of Susquehanna University with a BS in Music Education and is currently a graduate student at Loyola University in New Orleans studying Vocal Performance in Opera and Classical Music.

Philosophy

My mission as a teacher is to provide students with a safe and supportive learning environment in which they will feel comfortable while enjoying the learning process.  I will do this by being a positive role model, giving 100% effort and expecting the same from them, and being fair and consistent in my dealings with them as individuals.  In doing so, I hope to instill a lifelong love of learning in them.  I also expect them to assume personal responsibility to reach their individual potential, and to respect themselves and others.
