Homework for the week of 10/27/14:

Monday, 10/27 -  Wear something RED for the start of Red Ribbon Week

 - Language Arts Read your SSR book tonight.  You should be working on your book report; you can get a new book report form any time if you don't already have one.  October book reports will be due no later than Friday, 10/31/14 (remember, you can get a bonus point for turning in your report early).   

    "Sochi Dogs" Article - do the answers for #1-4 (2 MC, 2 short answer); don't do the back page.       

Writing - do a prewriting/4-Square for your word.

              - work on your Monday/Weekend journal.

        Social Studies - Start reviewing the materials for Thursday's Ch. 1 Test.  I gave you a half sheet today with a bunch of ideas to help you study.  None of them are required, but you should try some of them.  We will be doing some of the work in class together over the next two days.  I will also try to get some computer time for us tomorrow or Wednesday so you can try the online test and Quizlet.

  Tuesday, 10/28 - Hats and Sunglasses Day for Red Ribbon Week

         Social Studies - Continue reviewing the materials for Thursday's Ch. 1 Test.  I gave you a half sheet yesterday with a bunch of ideas to help you study.  None of them are required, but you should try some of them.  We will be continuing to do some of the work in class tomorrow.  We had some computer time today; on Wednesday we will be in Room 519 with computers so you can try the online test and Quizlet (you can also try them at home).

The Breadwinner - do whatever your teacher assigned for homework for tonight.  My group has to do pp. 4 & 7 (Vocabulary work) from the packet I gave out this morning.  Mrs. Brosky's group - check her website.  Mrs. Walker's group - check the assignment sheet and do Rotation #1 and Building Background worksheet.

   Language Arts - Homework for The Breadwinner  - my class needs to do the map in your packet (use the map in your book to fill in Afghanistan and the surrounding countries; don't worry about the info from the atlas);  also, you may begin reading at your own pace.  Make sure you answer the questions for the chapters as you read.

 - Language Arts DLP/Grammar HW - Packet #2, pp. 7 & 8. You can just edit Part A on p. 7 and Part B on p. 8 instead of rewriting them.  We will have a quiz on this packet on Thursday and a test on all of the grammar we have done in Packets 1 & 2 on Friday (the review pages in the packet will help prepare for the test on Friday).

     You can use Quizlet to study.  Search  under millebri and look for Chapter 1, Section 2 Prehistory.  There are 8 items.

 Biography

This will be my twenty-second year as a teacher in East Penn, and my tenth year as a sixth grade teacher here at Eyer Middle School.  I am a veteran of the United States Air Force, and have also been a commercial loan officer in the banking industry.  I earned my B.S. (in Business Administration with a minor in History), my initial teaching certification, and my M.Ed. from Kutztown University.  I have earned many credits beyond my Master’s Degree (hence my belief in students being lifelong learners!).   In addition to being a teacher I am a certified personal trainer and am also involved in acting; I directed the Spring Musical here at Eyer for 13 years and have performed on the stage, television, radio, and even a movie.  My wife is a nurse practitioner in the field of ophthalmology.  We have two children; our son is a senior at Emmaus HS and our daughter is a junior at Susquehanna University.

Philosophy

My mission as a teacher is to provide students with a safe and supportive learning environment in which they will feel comfortable while enjoying the learning process.  I will do this by being a positive role model, giving 100% effort and expecting the same from them, and being fair and consistent in my dealings with them as individuals.  In doing so, I hope to instill a lifelong love of learning in them.  I also expect them to assume personal responsibility to reach their individual potential, and to respect themselves and others.
