Wednesday, 10/11 -  September Book Report was due no later than today.  Grades will be posted online as soon as they are graded.  For those who did not turn in a report today a grade of zero was entered but will be changed once the report is turned in and receives a grade.  Parents - please check Home Access Center.
Wednesday, 10/4 - The new Revised Book Report forms were handed out in class today.  We went over these in class.  See me if you have any questions.  Your September Book Report is due no later than Wednesday, 10/11/2017.

Tuesday, 9/26 - Book report forms were handed out in class today.  We will begin work on these in class; you may fill things in on your own and then check with me if you like.  You will have until Wednesday, 10/11 to turn in your September book report.  I will guide you through this report, so don't feel like you have to do anything on your own yet.  Watch for further updates.

Thursday, 9/21 - 6th Grade LAP Classes: Finish close reading and marking up the 10 Benefits of Reading article.
7th Grade LAP Classes: we were marking up the histories of Justinian today; we will continue this in class tomorrow but you may finish this on your own if you wish.

Thursday, 9/14 - We are doing Benchmark Articles for Newsela in class.  These will give us a Lexile level and help us to read future Newsela articles (some of which should be related to Social Studies and Science topics we will be studying). These do not have to be completed for homework as we will be working to get all three completed in class.

Summer Reading Projects were returned this week.  Grades are in Home Access Center.
Thursday, 9/7 - All LAP Students:  Summer Reading projects are due tomorrow; I would like your Flipgrid sheet turned in (you do not have to do a video but it would be cool if you would try).  You may also turn in the assignment for your LA teacher if you did something separate for her; see me if you have a concern about the Flipgrid sheet.

If you have not yet registered in my Google Classroom please do so.

Remember to read at least 10 more minutes a day than your usual average!

Tuesday, 9/5 - All LAP Students:  You should be working on (or may have finished) your Summer Reading Project. They are due NLT (no later than) Friday, 9/8/17.   I will be giving you computer time on Thursday if you need to finish a Flipgrid project.  You may also come to my room with a Chromebook from your pod during 9th period on Wednesday if you want to work on it.

Thursday, 8/30/17 -  ALL LAP Students:  FlipGrid is set up and ready to go for your Summer Reading Projects.  I will give you a handout sheet tomorrow that will help you logon, but if you want to try it out and play with it (you can redo the video if you're not happy with the way it comes out) here is the link to follow:

https://flipgrid.com/ltaef6b

Use the sheet I gave you in class to record your video.  Remember to do it under your class period.  You have until Friday, 9/8/17 to turn your Summer Reading Project in.

 Biography

This will be my twenty-fifth year as a teacher in East Penn, and my thirteenth year as a teacher here at Eyer Middle School.  I am a veteran of the United States Air Force, and have also been a commercial loan officer in the banking industry.  I earned my B.S. (in Business Administration with a minor in History), my initial teaching certification, and my M.Ed. from Kutztown University.  I have earned many credits beyond my Master’s Degree (hence my belief in students being lifelong learners!).   In addition to being a teacher I am a certified personal trainer and am also involved in acting; I directed the Spring Musical here at Eyer for 13 years and have performed on the stage, television, radio, and even a movie.  My wife is a nurse practitioner in the field of ophthalmology.  We have two grown children; our son is a graduate of Emmaus HS now working in the plumbing industry in Florida and our daughter is an alumna of Susquehanna University with a BS in Music Education and is currently a graduate student at Loyola University in New Orleans studying Vocal Performance in Opera and Classical Music.

Philosophy

My mission as a teacher is to provide students with a safe and supportive learning environment in which they will feel comfortable while enjoying the learning process.  I will do this by being a positive role model, giving 100% effort and expecting the same from them, and being fair and consistent in my dealings with them as individuals.  In doing so, I hope to instill a lifelong love of learning in them.  I also expect them to assume personal responsibility to reach their individual potential, and to respect themselves and others.
