School Hours

School begins at 8:55. The doors open at 8:40.

          School ends at 3:30.

Wednesday P.M. dismissal is at 1:30 every week.

Dismissal Changes

If there is a change in your child’s normal routine, please notify me in writing on the day the change will occur. I must receive something in writing from a parent if any child is to change his/her normal method of transportation. The Boomerang Binder is a great location to send in a bussing change note. Adding a telephone number where you can be reached is also helpful.

You may also call the office before the end of the day to inform the school secretary of your child’s pick up. Please DO NOT use email to inform the school of a pickup change.

Modified Schedule

If there is inclement weather or an emergency situation, the school district will contact you via telephone by the Alert Now call system for school cancellations or delays. You can also listen to the local radio and TV stations for school delays and closings. If there would be a two hour delay, bus pickups are adjusted by adding two hours to the normal pick up time. This means if there is a two hour delay, the school day would begin at 10:55 instead of 8:55.

Students are to arrive at school on time each day. If you bring your child to school late you must walk him/her to the office and sign in. In the case of an absence, please complete an excuse blank and send it to the office within three days of the absence. Extended absences due to vacations should be taken care of prior to the vacation. You can obtain a form from the office.

Snack Time

Due to an early lunch (11:10 am), we will have a short snack time in our first grade classrooms each afternoon except for on Wednesdays.  Snack time is optional.  If you choose to send your child to school with a snack, please consider the following guidelines:

  • Snacks should be healthy
  • Snacks must be consumed within ten minutes
  • Students must eat snack at their desk
  • Students may bring a water bottle with a pop-up straw or sipper top
  • Students may be working during snack
  • Snacks will not be provided to students
  • Snacks may not contain any nuts of any kind (we are a nut-free classroom)

Students may bring in a small non-edible treat to share with their classmates on their birthday. Items such as bubbles, pencils, and stickers are examples of these items. Please contact me before his/her birthday so I am aware that he/she will be bringing a treat for their friends. This assists me in distribution of treats. Summer birthdays will be celebrated towards the end of the school year. Participation in this is completely optional. Please contact me if your family chooses to not celebrate this holiday.

I do provide in class volunteering opportunities for parents. These opportunities include party volunteering, station volunteering (weekly or monthly), partner reading, and Mystery Reader. I will provide more information about these opportunities after the beginning of the school year. The students and I appreciate parent volunteers VERY much! Our classroom couldn't run without them!

To be a Mystery Reader, you must have a signed affidavit. Please click here to access the affidavit form that you should have signed by a notary public.

To volunteer in the classroom, you must file a criminal background and child abuse check with the state of Pennsylvania.
