Mrs. Seymour's Story
I am originally from the small coal region town of Nesquehoning, PA. This quaint town is minutes away from Jim Thorpe-a popular place for tourists. After graduating from Panther Valley HS, I began my college career at Lock Haven University. After 4 years of fun, cheerleading, and lots of studying, I graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education.
To begin my career in teaching, I moved to Charles County, Maryland and lived in the town of La Plata. This town is located in between Baltimore and Richmond VA. While in Maryland, I taught first grade at Dr. James Craik Elementary. I truly loved my job, but wanted to move closer to my family to enjoy watching my sister, who was 3 at the time, grow up.
It sure was a "whirlwind" at the time, but in 2007 I was offered a position at the Kindergarten center. It was a very busy time in my life, but it was the best decision I've ever made! Now in my 15th year of teaching, I couldn't be happier! I give my students 110% and work to my full potential to give them a wonderful first grade experience. I try to be involved in many district initiatives such as: math & science curriculum revisions, project based learning and STEM implementations.
In December 2010, I graduated with a Master's of Reading/Reading Specialist degree from Kutztown University. With this, I can hold a position of Reading Specialist and/or Literacy Coach. Until that time arrives I utilize the emmense amount of information I have learned to help teach the process of reading to my young students. In addition, I have completed a second master's degree in Library Science from Kutztown University in the Spring of 2014 and I am currently a garduate student again as I finish my Literacy Coaching Endorsement.
When I'm not busy with school work, I do have many hobbies. My most favorites are: working out and cooking/baking. My second passion is fitness, health, and nutrition. I love teaching aerobics classes and live a very healthy lifestyle. I also enjoy reading, shopping, cleaning, being outdoors, and spending time with my wonferful friends and family. My husband and I always stay busy with our two adorable mini schnauzers: Hobbs & Harper.
This year is off to a GREAT start and I cannot wait to see what the year holds. Fasten your seatbelts-we're off on a wild journey and as my favorite quote states:
"Childhood is not a race, but a journey."
